Q: Are all the EV parts new?
A: Yes. we use only new equipment in your conversion (unless otherwise specified).
Q: What are the condition of the vehicles you sell?
A: The cars we buy and convert are used, but are all in excellent shape. All are titled (unless otherwise specified). However, because of their age, we recommend you maintain non EV parts (such as the tires, brakes, etc.) in order to assure peak performance.
Q: Will you convert my car/truck?
A: Yes. However, you will have to pay to ship the car to us AND from us back to you. Wait time will vary, but can be as long as 6-months.
Q: How much does it cost to convert my vehicle?
A: This varies depending on the car/truck. Email customerservice@alanizcorporation.com for a quote.
Q: Do the vehicles have an onboard charger?
A: Yes, the vehicles do come with a 110V charger that plugs to a standard outlet.
Q: What is the expected life of the battery pack?
A: Traction battery packs usually last 1-3 years. Actual performance varies depending on proper usage and maintenance.
Q: Do the batteries release toxic gas?
A: The batteries do release hydrogen during recharge. However, it is non-toxic. Because it is combustable, it is recommended that you have good ventilation when charging.
Q: How do EVs handle hot temperatures?
A: EVs have no problems when it is hot outside (batteries tend to function better in warmer environments).
Q: What is the top speed and range?
A: This varies depending on the original curb weight of the vehicle and the battery pack installed. A small car or light truck can achieve speeds of 65-70+ mph and up to 50+ miles when fully upgraded (and with opportunity charging).
Q: Can the car be upgraded to lithium batteries?
A: Yes. However, we currently do not sell or recommend lithium at this time due to the high price of the traction battery pack. We have also had problems with lithium battery manufacturers not honoring their warranties.
Q: Are solar panals available?
A: Yes. However, they will only provide a "trickle charge" and are not meant to replace the onboard charger.
Q: How long does it take to charge the battery pack?
A: It takes 6-12 hours to recharge, depending on the depth of discharge.
Q: Since this is not a traditional automobile, will I encounter any problems with title, registration, or insurance?
A: Please check with your state's tax office and DMV for details. Typically, you will need to have the converted vehicle inspected and reclassified as electric. Insurance companies vary on their requirements, but are usually accommodating.
Q: Do the cars/trucks have to be manual transmission, or can they be automatic?
A: They can be either manual or automatic. However, for various technical reasons a manual transmission EV will perform better than an automatic.
Q: Does the car require any special maintenance?
A: Regular battery maintenance is a must. Although the EV motor does not need regular servicing, the batteries, transmission, brakes, power steering, wipers, etc. must still be maintained.
Q: What about technical assistance if I have a problem?
A: Most problems with your EV can be dealt with by a regular auto shop. For EV related issues (batteries need replacing, etc.), we also provide basic wiring diagrams to help resolve any issues.
Q: What is done with the spare parts that are not used in the EV conversion process?
A: We ask that you try to remove any parts you wish to keep prior to shipping your car to us. This includes the motor, alternator, etc. There is an additional $99 fee if we have to dispose of the motor.
Q: Do you offer the conversion components so I can build one myself?
A: Yes! Please see our new Online Shop for all the parts necessary to build your own custom EV.
